We have all kinds of ML and human analysts pouring over our phone records and internet activity daily. I agree it would be better if there were far less tracking (none would be great).
TBH I'm not overly concerned about violent immigrants as long as the state doesn't go out of their way to disarm the locals first, but to pretend that everyone who comes here does so because they just want a slice of that sweet american pie is just as steeped in propaganda as the idea that everyone crossing the border is going to murder you. The people crossing the border are diverse, and it would be wrong to try and fit them all in a single category (except perhaps "not American")-

I own my own property, and I expect that people who wish to enter my property do so through the approved ports of entry (the front walk way is the most traveled) rather than through the hole in the hedges along the alley way. I also think it's justified that I wish to know who is in my house or on my property at all times, and I have the authority to ask anyone to leave at any time with the understanding that if they refuse I may resort to force.
In the case of enforcing border policy the state is meant to be acting on behalf of the property owners which are largely citizens of the country, and all of those rights we have to defend our own property are transfered to their agents. If there is any purpose of having a state body at all it's to protect the property of the members of that state.
