"IME there are many "therapists" out there that have no business in the job like this. Unfortunately I've also had experience with bad ones too. You REALLY have to shop around and don't let them BS in sessions to figure out if your wasting time with them. Throw the heavy stuff on them in the first three sessions to make sure they can handle it AND to make sure they can help. Honestly, for a while they were making me WORSE off.
Had one that would talk about anything BUT combat experiences, and then would ask how I COULD HAVE DEESCALATED (WTF!?) . . Had another one that would constantly try to bring it back around to "abuse from childhood," (that didn't exist) sure the carnage seen overseas HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. . Had another one that would ALWAYS steer sessions to her experience being raped (WTF?) and a male that would do the same for the time he was stabbed and robbed (again, WTF?). Had another one that didn't believe in PTSD (why are you working for the VA with Veterans?). The ONLY one I ever found useful was one that used to counsil kids that were literally tortured in Egypt before he moved to the US. Guy did not believe in all the modern BS. BUT . . He was good . . he would also ask me how often I pray and how often I have sex, like those are the only two things that would fix me. . .. (maybe). ."
Wtf?
