     @fluffy What was the reason for lockdown to begin with, too much attention from Twitter refugees? Looks like it did at least broadcast posts to remote users that had subscriptions beforehand, not sure if it applied the other way around.

     Server overload from the scum fleeing the bird sounds site.

     I like the phrase “roaches fleeing a burning slum” to describe the situation.

     We didn't want the infestation, certainly, but we're a small server and needed an upgrade to handle the tide.

     @fluffy As long as you're not on large public relays, tide of newfags on one part of network shouldn't flood the relatively insular server that much. Though I don't know the specifics of your case, Mastodon is built... differently.

     I defer to our benevolent dictator for life, Satori, who made the decision.

     I wouldn't be surprised if we had some kind of targeted attack, given our server's content focus.

     I admit to not having looked into the technical aspects of mastodon and the federated network, but I have a vague idea of a download tool that's on my back burner.

     @fluffy Might be. You're the seventh most defederated instance according to my metrics, so for the most part people have already sheltered themselves from unwanted content. Still, some noise would get through in some capacity.

     Might explain why the fediverse seems so relaxed and filled with rational people from what I see.
