It wasn't like, a rule, but criticizing Matrix even just a few months ago just got you eye rolls and dismissals, but now I guess one or two people successfully said the emperor has no clothes and now people accept it.

@Moon i never liked matrix
mainly because i've never used matrix
-
@ElDeadKennedy @Moon Irc is the best :pepe_cofe:

@Moon the thing is, i think many people are going overboard with it, saying that matrix is trash and has always been trash. I have used matrix for years and it was alright. these days i'd probably rather run xmpp or just use signal if i need free software, or telegram or whatsapp if i don't care.

@lain I just had constant problems with performance and malfunctioning rooms so my opinion of it is very negative. Also when I wrote 10grans bot I immediately ran into problems, filed an issue on their github and it didn't get fixed for over two years.

@dcc @Moon you said it, brother

They never fixed the problem of "too much undocumented, too much changing so fast that no alternative implementation can catch up"
It's been years. Where's the rewrite away from Python?
-
@feld @Moon honestly, i think never having any real alternative (both client and server side) was probably good as it made it possible for them to experiment with changes, nearly as much as a proprietary server would do. but then being wedded to an inefficient 'platonic world of ideas' type protocol makes even less sense.
