     this is the only manga i've seen that does the death note style careful misleading of others and mindgames with a massive power disparity of ignorant children vs informed adults that actually STAYS there
     
     it doesn't do the promised neverland thing of turning into shonen later, this is a manga about mindgames and social etiquette, it's great. it makes the brief moments where john can wrong-genre shonen protagonist through problems that much cooler, because he's a useless idiot except when he's the biggest badass.
     
     if this series stays at this level of quality instead of going full retard like death note did or changing genres, it'll easily surpass death note as the number one mindgames manga

     @coolboymew yup. it's one of the few series out there where the high-budget anime's still a visual downgrade.
     
     it kinda has to be in color when every character exactly matches the silhouette of one other character. even with the detailed designs trying to maintain clear visual design with identical silhouettes in black and white would be a nightmare.

     @coolboymew also anyone who reads this: don't avoid the anime. they had to cut corners visually, but it's still gorgeous, and they improved the writing and characterization slightly by removing backstory dumps and integrating backstory into the plot
