All this proves now is that Samus wins popularity contests by default. She has universal appeal. I thought the fediverse could throw a real challenge at her because she always wins normie polls against normie opponents, and the denizens of the fediverse are connoisseurs of vidya women.
But if there is no one who can beat her what's the point? It just sucks the fun out of it for me, because if it isn't competitive it feels pointless, the result was determined as soon as Samus was entered. And I voted for Samus in one or two of the leadup polls.
@Gundog@ChristiJunior@DEERBLOOD@ElTigre Tamamo also took down a number of top waifus and there's some sentiment against her because of that, while Samus is broadly appealing and there isn't really an anti-Samus bloc.
@Gundog@DEERBLOOD@ElTigre@ChristiJunior Samus is just lowest common denominator. I voted for her a few times despite not wanting to at any stage. Fox girls are lame.
@Gundog@DEERBLOOD@ElTigre We'll definitely have a discussion about if Samus should be retired for future contests after this tournament, should this result stand, though there may be an argument for letting her participate in at least the a second contest next year, since new, strong contestants + people anti-voting her to give way to new blood could make her more vulnerable.
However, right now Samus looks like the female equivalent of Link in the GameFAQs Character Battles, who in 20 years pretty much only ever suffered 2 legitimate wins. And pretty much everyone agrees that Link should have been retired after years and years ago.
@ChristiJunior@Gundog@DEERBLOOD@ElTigre I'd like to see one with no Samus or Touhou at some later date. But I'd also like to see an anime waifu tourney before that.
