@MeBigbrain@ElDeadKennedy this already somewhat applies to corporation which probably pushes more corpos to switch to this. It should just plain be illegal at this point
Shit like Jira/Confluence, which are actually not bad software by themselves, but they're absolute plug-in hell. You want a basic ass fucking calendar app to put in Confluence? Better pay x amount of money x amount of user. Oh, you gained a user too much? Better pay up paypig
@coolboymew there will be a Windows 12 Free Edition that shows you random ads every minute on the lower right side of the screen. Normies will put post it notes over the affected area of the monitor.
@kaia@coolboymew why do normies just "put up" with this shit. This shit would make me switch immediately, i mean i only use windows for "games" more or less at this point exclusively. And proton becomes more and more compatible by the fucking day and cs2, the only game i play competetively online already runs great on linux cause valve. 90% of the games i play right now either can be run on linux with a guide or already are compatible with proton or just simply have a native linux version.
@coolboymew@kaia i dont understand that notion cause im a zoomer, who has been terminally online since i was a toddler. But then again i hear constant horror stories about my generation. Maybe its the autism that kept me from being tech illiterate????
The new generation only knows smartphones and that provides 0 computer knowledge growth and 0 normal concepts either. A lot of people don't even understand folder structures apparently, thanks to most smartphones and tablets actually having a drop everything into folder
@Mondobizarrro@kaia@coolboymew i am a zoomer too and most of our generation is pretty tech illiterate, yes. to be fair, most of the general population is extremely tech illiterate, not just zoomers
@ElDeadKennedy@Mondobizarrro@kaia true, but the thing is that it was thought to be common knowledge, it was thought that "Each subsequent generation will be way better with computers" and it just turns out that zoomers and down and apparently even less capable in general than millenials, thanks to smartphones
@coolboymew@kaia@ElDeadKennedy@Mondobizarrro the thing is that I've heard that computer classes are non existant these days. back when i was in elementary and HS we had computer classes (tho i was far beyond my classmates)
We always had computers in classes here, even if they were old Macintosh Classics color and we had activities with them. Then at the 2000s, we got a computer lab with the new nice colorful Apple ones, it was around 4th grade? And we got serious classes involving the computers
In High School, we had okay Windows computers lab and we also had serious classes. Basic stuff like Word and Net searching, but also at some point Flash programming, VisualBasic, making basic websites and etc.
Do the kids not have these where you live?
I recently saw in the last 10 years that they started installing Linux on the classes computers locally
@coolboymew@kaia@ElDeadKennedy@Mondobizarrro we didn't do visualbasic in hs but we did flash stuff, some webpage things too i heard that in america many places have gotten rid of computer classes, here I don't know if they have done that, but probably they are worse now. I was in private schools though. That said, I think I'm the only one that uses linux in my country lmak
@coolboymew@mischievoustomato@kaia@ElDeadKennedy i never saw a coding class at my school however there was a vocational school program that my school did where in the am youd go there instead and it offered a full it course that had that shit.
@Weeble@coolboymew@kaia@ElDeadKennedy i was born in 02 and maybe cause i didnt get a smartphone until i was like 11 or so helped? Like i mostly used pcs as a young kid but even then i dont really know how to code and i consider myself tech illiterate, despite everyone going to me for tech support cause i know more than the average person, but my dad who is an actual it and did sysadmin shit for like a whole ass decade obv knows more than me
@thendrix@kaia@Mondobizarrro Grabbing the ISO from the website (as easy as ever), downloading Rufus to install it for you on a stick, and then booting into it by pressing F12 or whatever your motherboard button is...
And being able to research those questions on the net, is an absolute minimum. Not only it's a minimum, but it's as easy as it ever been
Installing Windows is a lot harder than Linux. Especially when you consider system drive migration without knowing about licensing and CU limits before getting into esoteric items.
Can I help? Usually, if installed through an installer, the program will appear on add/remove program in the control panel. You can just search add usually in the windows bar and you should find it. No installer means it won't be there
Usually programs asks you where to install them, but usually, by default, it's in the C:/ drive, directly on there (man it's been a while I've used windows) there should be two program files folder, one normal, one with x86 added. The programs normally should be there
Usually you can right click a shortcut and check the proprieties to see the full path of where it points to
@coolboymew@shitposter.club Yes, it is a very big problem. And it's partially intentional, engineered by tech companies to keep accessibility and knowledge purposfully esoteric. If you're one of the few people who knows how to make fire and you're in the business of making fire, you're not necessarily incentivized in having everyone else also learn how to make fire. There's a lot of power and profit in rendering populations dependent upon you. @kaia@brotka.st@ElDeadKennedy@shitposter.club@Mondobizarrro@social.xenofem.me@Weeble@bungle.online
@mrsaturday@ElDeadKennedy@MeBigbrain Eh. I have some big doubt that for adobe for example, you'd save money and up end up with a better quality service (it's not). Which is probably the case with the majority of these
@coolboymew@MeBigbrain@ElDeadKennedy Corporations like subscription services over licenses because it allows for greater flexibility. They'd rather unsub if they have to downsize instead of pay for a bunch of keys that just sit around.
@Weeble@coolboymew@kaia@ElDeadKennedy i mean i torrent stuff i like, buy bds of stuff i really like (if good qiality bds), and stream everything else on like 9anime or w/e.
@mangeurdenuage@ElDeadKennedy@Mondobizarrro@Weeble@adiz@kaia "I wanted to fix my computer because I wanted to play video games" is exactly the thing, that's the thing. I wanted to browse more, I wanted to play more emulated and shareware games, etc. This really forced me to put the fucking windows ME CD, which was in English and I barely understood the commands, and attempt repairs
@coolboymew@ElDeadKennedy@Mondobizarrro@Weeble@adiz@kaia And it was a time where search engines were shit. Rember the 2000s when there was tons of solutions on forums ? Now we have discord which is garbage for that. Or that search engines weren't shit like today ? Now everything is compartmentalised between tech giants and info doesn't spread like it used too.
@coolboymew@MeBigbrain@ElDeadKennedy@mrsaturday Corporations love consistent items on the accounting balance sheets. Many of them will do stuff like buy a building and then rent it out to themselves.
@MeBigbrain@ElDeadKennedy@coolboymew@mrsaturday Naturally. Annual progressive taxation is also nasty for inconsistent individuals who might earn $200k in one year and then $0 the next instead of $100k/year for two years. A lot of tax stuff is rigged to make smoothing/consistent flow optimal.
@coolboymew@mischievoustomato@ElDeadKennedy@Mondobizarrro@kaia same here Kingarden tan mac running os 6 or whatever About 4th grade was the cry color Macs By middle school we had the white Macs Highschool we had xp machines and they started to update to 10
