   What happened to secure locations never allowing phones? Remember how there used to be all these anti-phone locations, lockboxes, check-in desks outside of {places} because everyone was terrified of espionage from their competitors?

   I remember seeing biz model phones deliberately offered sans cameras, hearing stories about IT departments drilling out the image sensor in a brand new iphone when an exec refused to accept anything else.

   Seems like it’s totally disappeared. I’m not too close to those scenes these days but it’s strange to think about now.

     @Twoinchdestroya That’s what I intuit, they’ve just totally thrown up their hands because they can’t enforce security in normal employees. Only way to ensure secrecy for whatever you develop is by airgapping

     and whatever you end up releasing will be built in china anyways, so….you only retain your headstart

     if you're not offering absolute top of your industry wages and benefits, folks are going to see your "no personal phones allowed past the lobby" policy and ghost you. it's just like a normal thing to be able to contact family and friends whenever throughout the work day, and they'd have to offer something truly outstanding to make it worth giving that up.

     Having a clearance sounds cool until you find out that 99 times out of 100, the only reason people need clearance is so they can know what the output pressure set points of some very specific pump or how many holes are in the colander basket of an A4W nuclear reactor pressurizer vessel. It gets even less cool once you find out that literally anyone in could find that info out just by reading spec sheets of commercially available components.

     "no personal phones" is also a huge red flag that the employer is full of micromanaging faggots. like you get a page form your wife, go to leave the secured area, and some smarmy faggot intercepts you with UM EXCUSE ME YOUR DESIGNATED AFTERNOON BREAK ISN'T UNTIL 3:15 PM YOU HAVE TO FILL OUT A REQUEST FORM 10 BUSINESS DAYS IN ADVANCE IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE AT A DIFFERENT TIME. not like because there's a legitimate reason like other people depend on you being at the assembly line or you need a minimum crew in the control room at all times, just because this smarmy faggot sniffs his own farts and is obsessed with schedules.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot still mandatory for SCIFs. Less sensitive locations have gone lax. I was at a place once where they just had you check them at the front security desk. Every single day you could hear in the open office area someone's unchecked phone getting a notification. If I was running that place I would be cutting the Internet every time that happened until the person was located and removed.
     
     When I started my career, security was much tighter, but with the advent of smart phones and tablets it got massively loosened because initially these devices could not be secured but executives demanded to use the latest thing and refused to use the actually-secure thing.
