Explaining problems or solutions or just how to read something to someone and rather than ask more questions they just pretend to get it. It's dangerous if they are then put in a situation where they need to use the thing they could have learned but their pride prevented -

It's simply not understanding and being afraid to ask more questions. It's not an uncommon problem. Where I have seen it the worst was off shore dev firms (primarily from India), but i also see it in my personal life. Some people just smile and nod without actually engaging their brains and following along. -

There is a big difference from doubting and not understanding, and I can tell the difference. Doubting would likely come with extra questions too. I think you'd be less likely to be embarrassed by having doubt's over not understanding. -
