So was there a data breach at Amazon? Last night their subreddit got flooded with thousands of people saying they recieved direct emails from them thanking them for buying gift cards, today news stories are following up on that. The strange thing is Amazon reps are telling customers different stories from: These aren't official emails (they are), an intern made a mistake, it was just an attempt to "test" users security, and there was a partial breach but data is safe.
Feels like the are hiding how bad it is.

@graf It's really strange, some people got emails some didn't. But all the people commenting are saying that support is giving out five or six completely different explanations which screams something got fucked hard and they are in a bit of a panic mode before they have a solid statment to publicly make.

@graf Here's the thread where users reported all the different answers they got over the last day:

@DrBHunter @graf They are directly from Amazon and apparently show up through your Amazon account in the messaging center as well:
"They were actually sent from Amazon, if you log in and look at the secure message center you will see them there. Someone at amazon made a big oopsie."

@Jim @graf Sounds like a phishing scam

@DrBHunter @graf Wasn't there news recently about a WebP zero day that basically can fuck over anyone that came out a day or two ago? Wonder if someone at amazon got hit and they used that employees credentials to fuck with customers.

@Jim @graf So they haven't a clue what's happening, could be a fuck up, could be a hack, either way not good.
