> it doesn't have a cord that means it's not a power tool
this is true. real power tools have cords

@roboneko @nachtrabe @Inginsub @cassidyclown @emma @bot I have a friend with an 18v reciprocating saw, and I am sold on them tbh. Just as much power as something you plug in but no dragging cords around. It's not like the old days where the saw was half as powerful and lasted 5 minutes between charges.

@thatguyoverthere @Inginsub @bot @cassidyclown @emma @nachtrabe don't get me wrong though. I'm with you that there are use cases where the convenience is worth the various tradeoffs. I'm not a professional carpenter or mechanic or whatever tho so most of those don't apply to me

@thatguyoverthere @nachtrabe @Inginsub @cassidyclown @emma @bot I know I know, some of them are okayish. but at current power densities either battery life or power will always be at least somewhat limited
more importantly, batteries don't last forever. 50 year old power tools with a cord will generally still work like new as long as they weren't abused. cords take forever to wear out and replacing them is cheap
