An early fanlation trend was to leave "-chan", "-kun" in the English. I liked that trend. Exclamations could be treated the same, left as hiragana.

>"indeed", Dave replied.
You have
>"wow-desu"
>"indeed-onigaishimasu"
and it's the distinct characteristics of the speech that are supposed to tell you who said them, but English translations easily strip that stuff.

I still vastly prefer anime that leaves suffixes in. I actually find the subs easier to follow that way
