Here's something weird I realized today. Our grocery stores have a small section dedicated to snacks and sweets imported from America. They cost double or even triple compared to normal (like 4,99e for a can of dr pepper) and taste completely different than the same products that are produced locally.

@s8n @riserise Japs also use corn syrup, local supermarket has a small Asian food section with a bunch of sodas from there.

@riserise soft drinks use corn syrup where corn syrup is more readily available than cane sugar and cane sugar where it's more readily available than corn syrup. The soft drinks that are local are more authentic, Americans will pay a premium to get them

@mint @riserise that's interesting, I wonder where the corn syrup comes from. I don't know if they have widespread corn production in japan
