Our co-location provider in Tukwila Washington experienced a prolonged power outage last night likely due to the storm affecting the PNW. There is battery and diesel on site but the transfer to diesel appears to have failed. Thank you for your patience as we work through this.
My only experience with diesel backup is in the hospital setting (since power *must* be continuous for life saving/sustaing devices). Regular, routine testing is mandated.
This is _just_ Mastodon, but hope to hear the co-location's post mortem for. how a backup power failure happens when an SLA and regular testing of this backup is surely routinely tested and verified.
Some poor techs probably had a looong stressful night. ⛈️
@SDF Thanks for the info. Is there a place to get updates when things like this happen? I see https://sdf.org/?status and https://www.sdf.org/status/ , though the first doesn't show any timestamps and the second was last updated in 2021. Of course, something taking down the whole data center would need an external page.
I appreciate the work you do, though it's unsettling when I don't know where to check to figure out what's going on.
@SDF that reminds me.. you mentioned in your email newsletter the other day having SDF instances in other countries, but there was one country conspicuously missing from the list and I wondered if I might be able to help with that. Would love to know more about what's involved if you're interested.
