     If by "international gold shortage" they mean "Countries went off the gold standard for WWI and people were shocked at the money printing, and then in the US there was an equity bubble in the 20s and the Fed tried to cool it by raising rates to put pressure on countries that owed us money, our exports fell, the economy slowed, we ran into debt **deflation**, and the money supply kept shrinking"
     
     Yeah, they couldn't print more gold. And anyone who thinks they should have printed money to get us out of the depression is fucking insane.

     Where is that from? Who is claiming there was an "international gold shortage"? I'm pretty sure they're making that up as I can't find any sources on that
