Shitty greentext but it reminded me of something
Do normoids really date for 7 years before marrying? (I know the answer is yes but the follow-up is important.) Why? Is this at all normal, historically speaking? Will I have to deal with retards saying "oh they married after less than 9 years of dating, they're going to divorce for sure" if I ever do marry? I just don't get this at all.

@nierenstein @greentext >is [dating] normal, historically speaking?
No. It pushes an important decision-making process into the hands of people least equipped to handle it wisely (even if they have large stakes in it).
>for 7 years
They do plenty of marital activities in the process while pretending they aren't married, so breaking up isn't a big deal unlike spooky divorce.

Nobody "dates" for 7 years, they live like they are married already but never make it official.
People do it because they want to be teendults all the way to the middle of their lives, have some low paying job, no children, waste all money on entertainment and have sex with some person you have zero commitment towards.
My cousin had a relationship like this, lasted for almost a decade.
