     @atomicpoet @aral I understand the skepticism, but personally, making corporations run their own instances is important as it embraces the Fediverse technology and let's them know their place.

     I understand not everyone is going to like every instance and what they have to offer, but that's the consequence of decentralization. After all, this is Medium, not some tech mogul like Google or Microsoft, which is a whole different story.

     Medium should be applauded for starting a Mastodon instance (me.dm).

     Far better that they run their own instance than piggyback on a volunteer-run instance. Which was what they were doing previously (medium@mstn.social).

     Every for-profit corporation should be running their own instance. That should be the norm.

     Is this a "win" for the Fediverse? No -- and people like @aral are right to be skeptical. I share that skepticism.

     Nevertheless, this is a step in the right direction.
