   If you are planning on using any of this sort of thing in a survival situation, practice now when the cost of failure is lost time and maybe a minor injury or food poisoning and not you dying. If your plans involve building stuff to use when the power fails, build it now while you still have power, so that is one less thing you have to worry about when the power fails.

     You can never be too prepared. If nothing happens, great, new fun hobby that also gets you in shape. If something does happen, well, at least you were prepared.
