@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain@HebrideanHecate It’s because whisky got trendy. Loads of people set up niche whiskey distilleries, but whiskey has a long lead-time because of the aging so they started making gin for cash-flow while they waited for the whisky to be ready.
@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain I don’t like alcohol of any kind myself, the only thing didn’t mind if mixed with something was the raspberry vodka, and it would have to be weak. Whisky, even the smell makes me retch.
@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain The girl is a daughter of one of my old primary school teachers, one of the nice ones, not sure who the husband is.
Her aunts on her father’s side are all fucking terrifying 😂 One of them was a maths teacher in secondary school; fortunately, she did not teach me, she was scary, and not a good teacher due to that, at least not for the ones lacking numerical ability.
@Flick@HebrideanHecate@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain I want to make gin from the plum tree, but mainly that's just because I like to learn the processes involved. I'm not actually a fan of gin myself, but I figure it would be a good gift.

Mere technicality. I'd like to do the whole thing. As I understand it I can distill plum wine to make it into gin. I think it can be done without a huge still. I saw someone use copper line to convert a kettle into a small stovetop still that looked promising. I don't know if I'll ever even get enough plums in one season to do it from a single tree. Last year I only got about a gallon of wine, and that isn't going to make much gin.
