@arstechnica The announcement is nice, but geeks hold grudges like you wouldn't believe. I'll be surprised if Unity is still around in 5 years.
@arstechnica Cool. They reluctantly pulled back - but THEY STILL INCREASED PRICES!
Don't give them a pass just because the original plan was even worse. There's no justification for an increase in pricing whatsoever. Unity's problem is that they run a big, inefficient, conglomerate of a business run by people that can't execute.
Unity will be dead in ten years or consolidated by somebody more competent.
@arstechnica I knew they were either planning to walk that back in a big hurry or to intentionally ruin the company so someone would offer to buy it or something. Wasn't sure which. They probably get to do both though. This caused a *LOT* of devs to start looking into alternatives and lots of donations to go to said alternatives... Trust has been lost. People now realize the people in charge of Unity have zero interest in not destroying it any time for a quick personal profit.
@arstechnica never forget what they wish they could do. They will find a way to keep you dependent. Find some money and support the open source alternatives. It’s your only protection.
