I’d decided to take a chance and put a magnolia in the garden: I love them, beautiful trees.
A big factor in that was that a local (if lower altitude) nursery, which keeps all the plants outdoors so that they’re used to the weather, sells them.
I was going to pick one up yesterday, as I was passing (ish), so I phoned to check that they had them in stock. No, they didn’t. They buy them in rather than raising them themselves, and wouldn’t have more until spring because that was they don’t need to worry about getting them through the winter.
Ok, maybe I’m not going to take the chance after all.
