As a German, I get scared when I see this happening."
Context: About the writers strike and how they basically bullied people like Drew Barrymore and Bill Maher into not returning their show and called them scab.
Oof.-

grillchen (grillchen@brotka.st)'s status on Thursday, 21-Sep-2023 03:38:52 JST grillchen @sim tbh im not sure but this is borderline criminal by german law. (the statement u are quoting is close to relativizing the nazis, i assume it is fine but depending on the context it might fall into this)
on the topic itself:
besides u i only know one guy who cares about the whole strike.
a general strike also seems dumb. but thanks to monopolies and giant associations like the AMPTP. to my understanding not all writers/actors get the same rates. so why are all striking? shouldnt just those ones be striking which work for a bad company? people could be angry at a certain show than for not paying their staff well instead of having undirected anger towards everyone...
the other guy i know which is "on strike" is just not talking about Netflix as a publisher. he can still work as an author for his books since he can just release them after the strike. and he hinted he worked for a project being published in the US by netflix. but the actual company producing it is an international one so the international company is excluded from the strike. -
jaf (jeff@misinformation.wikileaks2.org)'s status on Thursday, 21-Sep-2023 03:43:27 JST jaf @lain @grillchen @sim holywood will take non union workers and the union fuckheads are pushing more people to be willing to work with the non union labor pool. this is a tipping point and i cannot see unions ever coming back after this. the biggest losers are the ones who think there is any other outcome. Terry Hendrix II 🏹 (thendrix@social.hendrixgames.com)'s status on Thursday, 21-Sep-2023 03:48:59 JST Terry Hendrix II 🏹 Netflix laughed and ordered more shows from South Korea as soon as it happened. Studios are making money by not losing it on bad releases at the same time – and cancelling tons of bad shows and selling off entire networks. If only the strike would continue until 2025.

sim@shitposter.club's status on Thursday, 21-Sep-2023 04:27:07 JST sim @lain @grillchen @jeff Basically. Which is a shame... but then again, this is what happens when the writers seem to run out of good ideas and drag projects down with politics too. This is basically the worst time for them to be striking because there has become less and less value in what has become produced and you can be better entertained by independents. Are people really supposed to care at this point, especially when they encourage mindless consumption and support of their products? When there is fanbaiting?
I don't know where this all puts me as a writer. What it even means for my future if I can get my foot in. Then again, Hollywood has oversaturated the market and caused a talent drain as people go to them, making the industry cater to their politics.LS likes this.
