heh, now I'm remembering something from when I was like 15

>have power supply that can deliver 5A at 32V
>have spool of copper wire
>think it would be fun to create an electromagnet
>crank supply up to 32V and don't limit the current
>attach negative lead
>attach positive lead
>test with bar magnet
>it's very strong
>notice the coil is getting really hot
>go to disconnect the positive
>magnetic field collapses
>voltage spikes really high
>it arcs across the wire to the positive lead
>vaporizes part of the wire and the lead
>temporary blinds a part of my vision for a moment
