@coolboymew@shitposter.club Idk haven't seen anything come close to my top 3. Those fundamentally changed who I was as a person.Pripara :meru_sleep::meru_sleep::meru_sleep:
Terraformars S1 was fucking amazing. Flashbacks of everyone's absolutely miserable life in between scenes of them getting absolutely murdered by the cockroach. It was high art :blobcatokhand:
@coolboymew@Weeble >Lain: 3/5 >Akira: 4/5 I'm not going to hate on your taste because I'm sure you have your reasons and you obviously know your stuff, just gonna say that's bold
@mrsaturday@Weeble I think it just kinda feels lamer when you consider that all the Eva symbolism meant mostly nothing
I'm not even sure if that quote was fabricated but I feel like it really ultimately define that era: Eva production dude: Anno, you inserted x quote, did you read x philosopher's book Anno: No
@coolboymew@Weeble Yeah, that all makes sense. Lain was very much a product of its time and really pretentious, but there wasn't anything else like it back then, and a lot of imitators afterwards. I kind of have a soft spot for early 2000s 2deep stuff, though.
@mrsaturday@Weeble I kinda really don't like it anymore. It's also like how Fate is absolutely insufferable in it's dead serious ultra chuuni but I probably would have found it cool as shit as a 14 years old
We have much better stuff nowadays. For example, Revue Starlight is full of that stuff, but it's actually accessible symbolism, it's not hidden under layers of abstractions and philosophers that were misused
@coolboymew@Weeble Eva was the drug-fueled ramblings of someone hitting rock bottom in their life, but a lot of good art comes from that exact situation. I don't know, I get the feeling if I gave it another watch, it'd be like me reading Catcher in the Rye at two points in my life.
15 years old: literally me 25 years old: Everyone in this book, including the narrator, is an insufferable, awful piece of shit and eternal hellfire is too good for any of them
@coolboymew@Weeble@mrsaturday The gnostic Christian symbolism was superficial but some reading must have gone into it because otherwise where do you get the concepts to plagiarize.
that's why i prefer gunbuster to eva anno mecha from before he got depressed and gay and put in all sorts of symbols he didn't understand just a war of extinction with nice character who works hard set to city pop
