I feel like the biggest thing that went to crap is online gaming. 10-15 years ago the online community wasn't infested with soo many sweaty players who take the game "super seriously" because they want to get famous on twitch or some flavor of the month streaming service. Also you could pretty much say whatever the hell you want and wouldn't get banned for the most part.

Now most online games are full of a bunch of people who treat every game like it's an MLG final and the games took away decent progression systems for monetization of items and gacha mechanics. You also can't trash talk so much anymore on the consoles because Microsoft's new 8 strike policy where you can get a year one ban if enough bay area soyboys have their fee fee's hurt enough to report you.

Nowadays most people don't play with Mic's on xbox live because they don't want to risk getting a strike and getting banned. The social aspects were what made xbox live so great back in the day and Microsoft and it's shareholders are idiots and lost the plot.

I've also come to expect any AAA title on gamepass is gonna just be woke garbage too there's a reason why the games are cheap and on the service.

  Random strangers as opponents is silly unless it’s something team-based with good matchmaking, like I used to play on PS3 with NHL games. We had a team that got together on certain nights, we’d all VC and play random opponents for a few games, and the matchmaking wasn’t horrible enough for it to be not fun or too uneven. Plus, win or lose, we had a good time - just like I did when I physically played ice hockey, and I wasn’t living somewhere I could do that. My post-Team Fortress Classic online gaming experience has been mostly trash.
  online gaming is simply not good as a user experience, but it does play on emotions and take advantage of psychology to keep you hooked.

  Early adopters and refugees first, and then the cycle begins again the moment the first person invites their idiot girlfriend, friend, and/or relative.

  True, I was glued to CS:GO for many years but then I got tired of the games bs. Mostly because Valve didn't really do shit to fix the game and combatting the cheating problem effectively and more updates were just more gacha mechanics to milk their F2P cattle with their Danger Zone ( battle royale ) mode where they jumped the shark.
  
  I feel like a hypocrite though bitching about gacha mechanics when I got a sizeable CS:GO inventory but I've been liquidating that out slowly and using it to buy other games and stuff in my backlog I want when it's on sale. But atleast CS:GO gacha is optional its just cosmetics and they don't change the game and make it p2w.
