@mangeurdenuage are you like a farmer? 👀
You know too much about this agricultural thing smh

@iwillbite
>are you like a farmer?
I wish I had such land :cry:
True organic self sustainability for lets say a family of ten demands so much space when done correctly.
I'm not I'm just a computer repair guy with a plant hobby.
>You know too much about this agricultural thing smh
This is just very very basic stuff, if you want me to go into details I could start speaking of how ion exchange (nutrients) works in the soil, which is again to simplify done by aerobic type of bacteria (bacteria that multiplies in the presence of oxygen), or name a few endophytic bacteria, lets say carrots, like Agrobacterium, Klebsiella, Rhizobium etc...
These one actually live inside the cell of the carrot and help it's growing.
This is just a hobby tbh, I just looked for solutions to organic farming which have the same if not better output than synthetic/industrial agriculture and it actually works.
It's just that the soils are very damaged due to the current practices and it requires a few years before it can grow again properly.
Just like the human body, it demands time to heal.

@mangeurdenuage @iwillbite it is hard for people who grew up in an urban environment to comprehend not having to pay other people for all basic needs. We forgot how to sustain ourselves in a single generation. My great grandparents had a normal sized house and yard and they farmed that shit extensively. As soon as they died my grandpa put in a lawn.
-
@mangeurdenuage @iwillbite that's they whole problem for most Americans, everyone lost the plot on why a single family dwelling surrounded by fertile soil was ever a thing, and people are calling for all that to be replaced with big soviet concrete buildings with no parking spots.
-
@olmitch @mangeurdenuage @iwillbite who needs parking when everything you need is within 15 minutes walking distance :blobsmirk:
The problem is we aren't urban *enough* lol

I'm not actually a fan of the 15 minute city plan. I was shitposting. That said, 50% or more of jobs can probably be done by computers. Minimum wage hikes ensure that they will be.
It would be cool if less people had jobs and more people produced something of value on their own that they could earna living from. Not sure we need anywhere as much busy work as we make for ourselves.
-
@thatguyoverthere @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage 17% of jobs can be done from home. 17%. Get a fucking grip
-
@olmitch @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage I'm not disagreeing with you. I think most jobs require you to be on site.
I think a person who was creating valuable things could do so from home, probably not their bedroom. You could build chicken coops in your garage or bake cookies in your kitchen or grow and sell chicken or print 3d things for people or be a consultant for any number of things or weld or have a home office for contract work. I'm not disagreeing that while working at subway you need to be at the sandwich bar.
-
@thatguyoverthere @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage if you could help me to understand what the fuck people actually do to earn money that doesnt require leaving your bedroom other than camwhoring, software development, etc. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. You've been outside recently, right? Surely you can see with your own eyes that there are many people out there whose work requires them to actually get dressed and leave the house.
-
@olmitch @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage who is disagreeing? I'm not sure who you are arguing with.
I think we could do less with retailing, and most of those jobs could be replaced by computers/robots. That doesn't mean I think people working retail can do it from home.
-
@thatguyoverthere @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage cmon man.
-
@thatguyoverthere @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage I'm just frustrated at my lack of understanding on what the hell people who work from home DO all day. I've only had one job in my life that it made sense to wfm. Everything else has been hands on
-
@olmitch @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage I think the subset of "jobs" that can be done from home is small. In the 15 minute city model I assume you'd be expected to work at a business that is close to your home, but they'd still have you working on site.
I'd like to see less jobs and more sole proprietor type businesses. If more people could run their own business instead of working for giants there would be a portion of the business work that could be done from home, but many would still need to provide services at the intended location.

@olmitch @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage I think maybe we get a little fascism.
-
@thatguyoverthere @iwillbite @mangeurdenuage the part that no one is figured out yet is how they will magically fill the city with employers willing to pay people to live in the local apartments, which will likely range from $1,800-$3000 a month. This would mean the minimum wage would need to be at least $33 an hour. The only practical way to ensure that, or artificially cheaper housing, is with fascism.
