   Bought a new fan for laptop. Screw holes dont line up and is blocked by heatpipes

     The fan itself is the right size. It's just the shroud. If I can figure out how to remove the fan without damaging the shroud I might be able to just swap the actual mechanical bits, but it seems pretty well stuck

     @ned if the heatpipes weren't preventing it from seating flush maybe. I wouldn't even mind if I couldn't fit all of the screws because it is mostly just sitting on a desk anyway.

     Even worse than when I got a replacement cooler for a graphics card that looked like a perfect copy of an old one, but always kept spinning at highest RPM (they've messed up the polarity or IDK).
     Anyway, gave that card to friends and they like it — can't believe, there are people who don't care about that kind of noise 😂

     @m0xee yeah I have ordered a framework so I'd be content with a loud laptop for a few months while I wait. I can't find a fan that matches exactly, and now I may have shorted something out being sloppy because it won't even power on to tell me it doesn't like it's fan after putting everything back together. :mastodon_oops:
