@ArdainianRight@ChristiJunior yeh i get what they were trying to do with that ending and it's a bit funny but it still fails because you know, mario plays the role of hero, not some random guy :kek_pain:
@rlier23@ArdainianRight I don't think Nintendo would ever let Mario actually marry Peach, because of the fear that this would "age" him and make him less relatable to the target audience.
Hell, something similar happened to Spider-Man - the Marvel writers hated the idea of him actually being married to Mary Jane, so they had him sign a deal with the devil (really) to save his aunt, at the cost of his marriage being retconned out of history.
At least Odyssey's ending wasn't *that*, I'm 90% sure it was just Nintendo thinking this was a cute way to preserve their precious status quo. It's not like Mario suffers a Luke Skywalker-style teardown and character assassination, because all the rest of the game is devoted to celebrating him, but it does make that particular scene seem all the more weird and out of place.
It also confirms that Pauline is the Best Girl in Odyssey, and it's not even close.
@ArdainianRight@rlier23 Yeah, and at the same time Odyssey's wedding-theming kinda forced them to address the issue somehow. So I see what they were going for, and mostly just blame game journo faggots and e-celebs for actually defending Peach's behavior. Hell, one review acted like Peach was much more of a hero in Odyssey than in past games (which made me think she would actually be playable), but no, the retard was just praising her for being an ungrateful bitch AND exposing himself as a fake fan - there are plenty of older Mario games where Peach *does* make herself useful.
@rlier23 I definitely feel that ever since Galaxy, 3D Mario games have become way more epic and cinematic. Miyamoto may have resisted this (he actually thought Galaxy 1 had "too much story", and nerfed Galaxy 2's story in retaliation), but that's definitely the direction in which those games are trending, and I'm all for it - this is Nintendo's flagship series, and it deserves to be treated like it.
My hope for Mario Bros. Wonder is that it can do for 2D Mario what Galaxy did for 3D Mario, because that means more awesome games like that in the future.
@luithe@ChristiJunior now that you mention it i do have a few gripes with odyssey tho curiously it has nothing to do with the minigames, as much as i hate the jump rope moons
after playing odyssey and breath of the wild i came to the conclusion that.
i don't really like open level design that much, i prefer more lineal, well defined levels with a beggining and an end
this also bugged me while replaying ninja gaiden since that game also uses some open design elements.
tho that's probably just me idk. everything else of mario was pretty good :breadbug_giant:
@rlier23@luithe I think Odyssey is about as good as it will get with the open approach, and I actually do rank it above Galaxy 1 and 2, though maybe Galaxy 3 could have beaten it. Odyssey's variety, the sheer amount of high quality content, the excellent movement and the huge post-game makes it hard to beat for any 3D Mario.
@rlier23@ChristiJunior i enjoy it, botw presentation is really well done to make you explore like how dragon quest 1 does by pulling you in with the quest/main goal Totk really doesn't have this which is cool since it's a sequel, but they fucked it up by never really presenting an end goal that pulls you in besides the gameplay saying "hey wanna fuck around for 500+ hours building shit?"
@rlier23@ChristiJunior oh yeah and the story itself is poorly presented and just overall dogshit constantly retconning past games/ the game literally it's suppose to be a sequel to It's like they got Toyotarou from shounen jump to write the story, wrote some dog shit, and then said "yeah this is good"
