   @mos_8502 What's weird is all of the other gears are rock solid and totally fine as they are a different matieral.There's just the one crumbly one in there. One rumor I read suggested the crumbly gear either produced a softer sound, or smoother overall function. No idea, though.

     @amigalove @mos_8502 same thing happens to one of the gears in the PC Engine/TurboGrafx CD-ROM drives. I bet they used the (then unknown to be) crumbly material for it's sound dampening. When I replaced this gear in a friend's unit with a nylon gear it became very loud when seeking.
