ROUND 1, MATCH 6 PRE-GAME ANALYSIS
13th Seed Shanoa (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia) VS 20th Seed Tifa (Final Fantasy VII)
Today’s match between Shantae and Monster Girl Quest Tamamo is far from over, but so far it looks like the fluffy tail fox girl will pull off the upset win. Tomorrow’s match could very well produce a similar outcome, since the lower-seeded girl is one of the most iconic gaming Waifus ever. But let us first go over the lady who actually claimed the higher seed:
Shanoa is our lone Castlevania girl this contest, so she represents a long-running, well-respected and relatively mainstream video game series. Konami might have disgusted us all by eventually prioritizing Gambling over Gaming, but it’s not like we hold that against their legitimately good games or characters. And Shanoa has plenty of support here on the Fediverse, it’s how she got nominated after all, and her pre-match buzz is very positive. As a raven-haired beauty notable for showing off her naked back, she’s definitely a crowd-pleaser with some good mass appeal.
However, her opponent is none other than Tifa, the girl who for 25 years has arguably been THE sex symbol of gaming. Chill and supportive childhood friend, long black hair, unethically big boobs (seriously, look it up), runs a bar, is a martial artist, calls black people retarded – it’s no wonder why Tifa is so popular, especially when you also factor in what kind of a monster hit her game was, just how many childhoods it shaped and how many Best Game Ever lists it used to top. Oh, and her game also got a very commercially successful remake not too many years ago (with Part 2 now on the way!), and she even recently scored herself an Italian citizenship (Fio Germi already showed us how beneficial THAT is), so Tifa remains a very relevant and popular vidya waifu to this very day.
For all that, she’s so far been a huge disappointment this competition. She failed to directly qualify to the tournament based on Nominations, which was already a big surprise. Far more shocking still, she failed to make the Top 5 in the big Qualifier poll. She easily qualified for the tournament, sure, but this performance was genuinely alarming for someone who’d easily have been one of my top picks to win the whole contest. In a field missing 14 of her strongest rival, as one of the first poll options, with everyone having to vote for 5 different girls, and presumably boasting greater name recognition than any of the other girls in the poll, Tifa still finished well behind someone like UMP45, who has already been eliminated from this tournament. Tifa will REALLY be hoping that she’ll benefit from the 1v1 format and the presence of pictures, because if she isn’t significantly boosted, Shanoa is well placed to exploit Tifa’s surprising vulnerability and claim a glorious scalp.

@ChristiJunior Tifa's low seed is surprising, but I have not heard of Shanoa until this tourney; in fact, I have not really heard of any named girl from Castlevania. The only girl I could recognize related to that series is not even from the Konami games, but from a spiritual sequel and one of the only Kickstarter games to fulfill its promises.
I think Tifa will be alright.
