   Soon, 95% of the hummingbirds will be gone in one day. No idea how they know it’s time to go. I leave feeder up at least a month afterwards but see very few stragglers. They are hitting feeder hard I need to fill every other day now.

     It'd have to be something like that even if they took a whole month getting to Mexico. They are amazing little creatures.

     @TinyHouse4Life a state park ranger showed me a photo of a huge praying mantis eating a hummingbird at a feeder near their station. Unbelievable but true.

     You told me that last year when I had a preying mantis hanging out on my feeder. It traumatized me.

     Same here and I have 4 feeders up!
     I have noticed they are hitting the flowers and honeysuckle pretty hard too. Powering up for their journey

     @TinyHouse4Life I tried figuring out how many miles they must fly per day to get “south”. 70-100? They must ride the wind.

     @TinyHouse4Life @HaleakalaCrater I haven't and don't plan to. I love hummingbirds. I didn't have too many around this year in spite of adding a new feeder and having shitloads of flowers. I did end up having to rip out a bunch of honeysuckle this year and I didn't have many mimosa flowers which I think they really seem to enjoy.
