More than 45 million people collectively owe $1.6 trillion
45 / 330 = 13% of Americans, just like I state in my article.
1.6 trillion dollars / 45 million people is $28k per borrower. And like I said, 1/3 of those people owe <$10k and 2/3rds owe less than $20k.
Framing is everything.
The people with the big loans are the doctors/lawyers who are pulling in six figures within 3~5 years on the job (and also very unlikely to join the military unless they get in cushy Air Force positions and it takes care of all their debt).
