     @givenup Makes me feel bad for not making one in forever, I have a bunch littering my shelves but ever since I had my studio taken over I don’t have anywhere to paint. My last piece was repainting an old cessna toy for a friend’s flight school. Very hacky, ugly work but better than most of the rest of the stuff people use as a training aid.

     @burner @ChristiJunior This one kid I worked on had this really nasty infection he’d gotten from a puncture wound into his calf, it ended up with a pretty bad abcess the villagers were treating w/ stevia leaves. A few years later I was hanging out w/ a group after class and flirting with this girl, for whatever reason there was some marker I was picking up on that gave me a flashback to that same foul sweet/rot smell, and I couldn’t find my rhythm with her. It was wild, everything about her was attractive enough, but it must have had some chem component of her perfume in common

     @ChristiJunior @WashedOutGundamPilot I can't even look at etna, I saw someone request something completely disgusting involving her in a drawthread like 2 years ago and can't get the image out of my head. It involved a horse testicle necklace. Sorry, I just needed to get it off my chest, I think of that shit every time I see her. It wasn't even on /d/ or anything, it was on /v/ I think.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot when i do, paint, i rigged a cardboard box we got some shit delivered in, with an air filter for a car in back and a couple fans pulling sitting on the kitchen table lol, bought a gun and everything, then spring came and i got into farming heavy, SO it's all been sitting around, i don't feel bad about it, cuz i know i'll get back to it eventually, but being outside is just so good, got my chickens yesterday been interacting with them so they understand human no threat when they grow up etc.

     @givenup Aww. As long as you got a good tame breed they’ll be pretty tractable when grown. If they’re wild/show breeds, it doesn’t really change. I’ve been there to hatch them, raise them alone, spent a lot of time hand-feeding them, holding them, getting them acclimated, and to date I only ever had ONE that liked to be picked up….and he got eaten by a hawk after a couple months of roaming the field.

     Buffs and orpingtons are great, though, I just wish they’d be more voracious about eating bugs. Our latest bunch are…..dumb. You can show them a mountain of bugs to much on and they just starre in confusion, they were store chicks so they didn’t get raised by a mom the right way

     @Granwalder @givenup Quail are a lot tinier than that. Fairly good money, too, if you have a buyer around. Easy to grow, but they do tend to overcrowd and trample each other if you don’t time it out right. Sell ASAP and you’re good to go. But overall, good hatch rate, not too much loss, high enough value around here. We just don’t do it because she gets all sad that we’re raising them to get blown up

     @WashedOutGundamPilot those are buff orpingtons and 2 silver lace wyandottes i picked a breed that was specifically docile and friendly but also good egg layers and ok meat birds, since i'll be breeding htem and culling roosters that get born when they grow.

     @givenup @Granwalder Segregate early, then. We were sloppy and now I have a bunch of these damn half-breeds that can’t sell for anything. Buffs have zero issue breeding, the other day she found our missing hen had been sitting on eggs already, she had 30+ all incubating. Has hatched 5 so far, all on diff. schedules. She’s only 7 mo old, so they’re really getting an early start.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Granwalder buffs are extremely broody (egg sitters) half breeds still make eggs, BUT i'm gonna see eventually if wyandotte eggs look different enough for me to tell so i can never hatch any of those, buff orpingtons are so broody they'll try to hatch rocks and any other vaguely eggshaped object.

     @givenup @Granwalder I just like being able to sell for max value so we aren’t drowning in birds. I’ve tried to corral the free range but the chicks always escape, head out to the field, and return in force later. The boutique show breeds end up in a bad spot where you can’t show them, the plumage isn’t as good as the full breed, and they don’t have any meat on them. It’s just a waste all around, they do everything poorly.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Granwalder orp is a breed that was bred into existence before factory egg farming, which a lot of the birds that are really amazing egg layers were basicly bred for, and they bred the broodiness right out of them on purpose, so orps can and will hatch their own young and care for them.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Granwalder XD, yea i'm just breeding chickens to have a personal flock of egg layers and meat, and sell pure orps to anyone interested in owning in my area since i had to get mine over a couple hours away. my goal isn't to sell, but to proliferate the breed locally and have more eggs than i need.

     @givenup @Granwalder Just be judicious about distribution. Set a limit so people don’t take advantage, if you just give eggs to anyone asking you’ll end up w/ nothing when they take advantage and snag 2 dozen a day to sell/give out themselves.

     If you have them free ranging in a good climate, they’ll just keep breeding non-stop. Our new buffs will be the first time we’ve had a bunch in a long time, I haven’t bred a good meat/egg breed of chicken in a couple years, been into a bunch of other weird stuff

     @givenup @Granwalder Only in the winter do we start to really run short. But a lot of our breeds are tiny, so it takes a dozen eggs to make a pair of omelettes. I got tired of giving them to coworkers, just not worth the trouble
