@Grumblesock youtube.com/watch?v=AFbu21AGSho hercules beetle looks like its mostly mandible in its adult stage , very cool looking, its crazy how it grows that mandible, very bizarre

@Grumblesock milkweeds are a great plant to put in your garden if you want monarch butterflies, its a more suitable plant for them to lay their eggs in compared to other plants
-
@Grumblesock the red milkweed beetles are much more common thankfully

That's good hear, invasive beetles are a pain the backside and impossible to get rid of safely in numbers that'll have any real impact 😒

@Grumblesock I have a good amount of experience digging up beetle larvae to look at them, mostly red milkweed beetles and invasive japanese beetles, they both can be found near milkweeds and i kill the jap beetles to protect the milkweeds. Monarch butterflies like to pollinate milkweeds so i'm also helping the monarchs too when i do this, red milkweed beetles aren't bad for milkweeds unless they're in large numbers in which case you just knock them off the plant.

Sounds like you've got some pretty interesting beetle there, ours are fairly dull by comparison. Shame to hear about the invasive ones, are they a particularly big problem? I've just looked up the red milkweed beetle and they look really cool, how often do you find in those larger, more damaging clusters?.

That's incredible, I'd never really given thought to the larval stages of the giant beetles but I've got to say I'm impressed. Thank you for showing this to me 🍻
