Nintendo, while you could call it AAA Nintendo is basically on an entire other realm than the rest of AAA

@moth_ball @ocean Budget/Size/Marketing
FromSoft simply isn't AAA
-
@coolboymew @ocean is budget the thing that makes something dribble ayy? I'd argue that AC6 is a big industry flagship but on the other hand I have no idea how this works anymore
-
@why @moth_ball @ocean I really don't agree. A lot of games were published by Enix back in the days, which released Dragon Quest. Were all AAA? Hell no. I don't think the publisher dictates this
You can see the AAA rot in Square to the level where they're being beaten by fucking Pikmin 4
The thing about AA, mid-tier and smaller devs is that once upon a time they were able to release high quality innovative games that were more or less on par with the biggest studios. This fell off during the HQ gen, more and more, but there's still a few studios that manages nowadays
I don't quite believe FromSoft is AAA

@coolboymew @moth_ball @ocean its still published by bamco. idk $ but elden ring and dark souls 3 were definitely AAA marketing. fromsoft's low tech engine and lack of celebrity voice actors doesn't exclude them from being a big part of the industry. AC6 is certainly higher on the list than FF16, which has been treated like AAA since at least 6
