     I've been looking at the Ruger Precision in .300 Win Mag for these sort of things, as well as getting a .308 rifle of some sort.

     Eyeing the Prerun X17 which supposedly should come out for the US in next year. Because apparently I like weapons out of the Balkans apparently.

     Also: Some slight bitterness from 'just' finishing my VHS-2 rifle loadout and then "Assault rifles are out, battle rifles are back in boys".

     @Atomic_Samson @AshChapelsGhost Don’t listen to the industry, just look at your own armory and decide on what you need. Nobody acknowledges the fact that the entire gun industry is built on the back of guys w/ 12 diff. rifles in their safe already, which is why new “metas” come out like wildfire. Guys with every conceivable variation of AR will see a new bullpup with ONE minor change from their last one (that they bought and sold because they never shot it and lost interest when the fad passed) so they all start the cycle anew.

     I’m now to the point where I’m proud of my setups being frozen in time, as imperfect as they are. Sick of new optics, new furniture, new lights all the time. As long as you have your bases covered for your mission and environment, you’re good to go. That’s why I don’t have a pistol cal carbine - nowhere to use it here. I’m not urban, I have little use for a 16” barrel and 33 rds of 9mm. I DO have use for .308 at range though. I’d probably lean into the simple choice of doing an AR-10 build on the cheap, in .308, just to meet the BR niche, unless you want something w/ more character. I tend to really lean into standardization, because I can’t afford to stack super deep for a weirdo esoteric platform.

     A good .300 wm can be special, though I know it’s on the outs with everyone I know jumping to 6.5 creed or whatever new thing has come out. I do like how 65 shoots, in any case, but not sure about the power delivery against the 300.

     But I've been looking at a .300 Win Mag because I live on the high plains now and after I built a 'recce rifle' per Mike Jone's video I realized/learned how terrain may effect what I need in a SHTF situation.
     The complete and utter flatness to the horizon with nothing more interesting than yuccas leans toward range/power/magnification.

     I'm avoiding 6.5 creedmore ATM waiting for the DoD orders to get filled/become more common on the market.

     @Atomic_Samson @AshChapelsGhost Not sure about your zone but I feel like 300wm prices aren’t as hot as they used to be now that it’s deprecated in the cool guy zone. Everyone wants the new hot thing. I tend to like putting out feelers for stuff, like I’d ask around to see if anyone’s got an old classic rem 700 sitting in the closet. The police model has nice optics mount and a cool old 80’s tactical vibe… kind of heavy though. but it’s still the quintessential 300 wm to me. A good old rem 700 w/ the AAC box mag conversion should be a good amount of gun for the coin
