   There are two kinds of programmers.

   One kind does what the standard dictates and submits to it like it is a higher power.

   The other applies home-made patches to compilers, adds custom language extensions via plugins, all of that to become closer to God.

     @jeff lmao you couldn't possibly be more wrong. And I don't mean myself. Most programmers have never bothered reading a single programming language standard, even if it exists for his or her favourite language (which it probably doesn't).

     @icon_of_computational_sin working alone is a degenerate behavior, i myself have been kicking that habbit. i have now understood the mark of an excellent programmer is the ability to be better in a group than by themselves as the irreducibly complex nature of the technology requires hyper specialization. if all you know is how to write an OS you have almost nothing to give back as there is so much more than one person can learn in a lifetime that is needed to truly achieve excellence.
     when working with the irreducibly complex machines that computers are, excellence is being able to parallelize your workload and rely on other hyper specialized people to build things with you.
     being nice is the first step on that road.
