     I would argue that's a slightly different matter, because But Light is not a weapons dealer or a mega bank, they're a lifestyle brand.
     
     They don't just need people to not attack them, they actually need people to want to associate with them. Now SOME people attacked them, but I'd wager the vast majority of people participating in the "boycott" in fact simply did not want to be seen associating themselves with Bud Light.

     Why do you suppose every arms merchant, every mega-bank, and every big oil conglomerate wraps themselves in the gay pride flag each June?
     
     You think in their big hearts they found a cause they truly care for?
     
     Or maybe their branding consultants decided it's a lot harder to attack them when they're wearing the colors of a historically marginalized group...

     @cjd will they? There's enough people who are sceptical enough not to fall for that.

     I don't think Goodhart's law is particularly applicable here.

     The obvious problem with this logic is it remains subject to Goodhart's Law. If everyone follows it then the powerful will simply make themselves appear weak & oppressed.
