@thatguyoverthere Three 🐝 at once! Amazing! 🤩

@BowsacNoodle That was my thinking. There were bees on a few other flower heads, but this is the only one that had 3 working it at once.
-
@Grumblesock @BowsacNoodle @thatguyoverthere Apparently the flower actually flavours their honey (unsurprising), so there are some brands of exclusively sourced honey you can buy, where the bees have only partaken of that one flower. Lavender is a popular one.
-
@CatLord @Grumblesock @thatguyoverthere Yes it does. I have a jar of berry honey in my cupboard. It's remarkable how well it takes flavor.
-
Wildflower honey is real good.

@thatguyoverthere @BowsacNoodle When I get rich, I want to make a big garden specifically for bees. A bee garden. I'll have lots of lavender, bottlebrush, flowering gums, and other flowers and trees bees like. I don't even need the honey. It's for the bees.

This is such a cool idea. I've been trying to encourage more bees in my garden too. I planted loads of lavender and none of it has taken well so will have to try something else. Luckily they adore the sunflowers and buddleja so they've got something for now at least.

We grew wildflowers around our garden last year specifically to draw in pollinators

@CatLord @BowsacNoodle I try and plant wildflowers everywhere I can find space during the summer to encourage them to stick around. Last month I noticed some honey bees have built a hive in my house which I am hoping I can move to a nice hive box in the spring.
I also have a hornet's nest from hell hanging from a dead branch that I still need to tend to :ablobweary:

@CatLord @Grumblesock @BowsacNoodle it definitely affects the color of the honey, but the taste is more subtle unless you compare something like clover to buckwheat where the difference is pretty stark. I can't tell the difference between wildflower and clover, but the darker ones are quite a bit different.

@thatguyoverthere @Grumblesock @CatLord It depends on how controlled the source of pollen is. Blueberry honey is like blueberry syrup levels of blueberry flavor. Clover or wildflower just taste like regular honey to me.
