feld (feld@bikeshed.party)'s status on Wednesday, 23-Aug-2023 07:35:45 JST feld @thatguyoverthere I think you are a smart and good person who should dive deeper into these subjects (time, when can we get more time? I'd like more time in a day please)
but the crazy distrust of other humans trying to do good, honest work is too much. You should crank that down from 11 to maybe a 6
that thread has exhausted me now, so I'm just gonna mute it- Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this.

amen. The truth is if I invested as much time in global warming literature as would be required to have a more informed opinion, I would have to sacrifice things that I think are far more important (like tending to my birds and plants).
> distrust of humans trying to do good.
This is a complex problem. For one thing I don't always know the actual intentions of people (even people I know personally). Someone can say they have good intentions, but words are just words.
Bill Gates was the first one I ever heard make mention of intentionally reflecting solar radiation away from the planet. He says he wants to do good. Maybe. I know that Microsoft was a terrible company that made computing very difficult for me over the years. I know that they used dishonest business practices to push their shit on everyone. Now that he's a philanthropist I should just take his word? He's just one guy of course, but he has a big hand in the politics around global climate action. His involvement alone leads me down the path of distrust. There are other people/reasons. It's not like my distrust was born in a vacuum. Authorities have not demonstrated trustworthy behavior over the course of my lifetime. The scientific community is aware of the replication crisis, but somehow all of us outsiders are just supposed to accept that if it's published it must be true. -
feld (feld@bikeshed.party)'s status on Wednesday, 23-Aug-2023 07:36:40 JST feld I also think the burden needs to go on the people and governments/corporations doing the most amount of damage and polluting, not attacking citizens to change their behaviors which will never solve the problem anyway. Blaming it on the unwashed masses is crazy.
Also I eat beef. Not giving up meat for Greta.Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

I am not part of the solution. I just talk what are the problems. LOL Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

Buying in bulk is cheaper anyway so going to a local butcher for a half cow both hurts my wallet and the environment less than one that comes off of a giant feed lot. It also means that one cow can be killed for months of food for my family.
I have a 2500 myself, although it's not the vehicle I drive most of the time (thankfully the cost of diesel is painful right now). Sometimes you just need real power. -

I love to make my own ham and bacon. I also know a local sheep farmer who notifies me whenever her sheep lamb. If I ever end up moving out of town I will raise my own pigs and sheep. -
feld (feld@bikeshed.party)'s status on Wednesday, 23-Aug-2023 22:05:21 JST feld We used to buy half or quarters of beef growing up. Sometimes a group buy of some friends/family. Didn't do a lot of pork, but I know some people who did similar for pork products. Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: likes this. -

You'd still get the cost savings but you'd probably need to go more often to pick up more. A side does take a good bit of space to store, but it's worth it IMO. My freezer is actually not a chest although I wish it was because I think having a side opening door allows a lot more loss and frost accumulation potential when it's opened. -
frigginGlorious ✅ (frigginglorious@freeradical.zone)'s status on Friday, 25-Aug-2023 00:06:18 JST frigginGlorious ✅ @thatguyoverthere @feld @SlicerDicer is there a good way of buying a side of beef where you don't need a big chest freezer to store it? I could probably wrangle up space for one, but it'd be a pain the ass.
