:zt_think: Ever since I upgraded my PC, it seems to randomly shut down to a black screen with a blinking _ on it. Neither my CPU nor my GPU seem to be overheating, though. It seems to mostly happen with games that draw lots of power, so I wonder if my new PSU isn't good enough?
-
@Ronnie21093 @DerLeere RTX3090 and Ryzen 5800X on a 850W powersupply here. No problems whatsoever even when running Cyberpunk on ultra.
I don't think its your powersupply.
-
@Ronnie21093 whats are your specs?
i would just get a 1000w 80+ gold psu they are pretty cheap
-
@DerLeere RTX 2060, Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB RAM, two HDDs, one SSD and an external drive.
-
For context, I have an EVGA 750 BQ 80 Bronze. My old PSU was a Rosewill Valen 500M 80+ Gold.
-
@Ronnie21093 @DerLeere RTX 2060: TDP: 160W. Suggested PSU: 450W
RTX 3090: TDP:350W. Suggested PSU: 750W
I don't think its your powersupply. :senko_sigh:
Get HW Monitor and keep an eye on your temps when stressing your rig with furmark for GPU and prime95 for CPU. Also don't run them both at one. :akko_sus:
-
@Tamamo @DerLeere You have 100W more than me :doge_laugh:
The problem pretty much only happens when a game is demanding a lot of power. The problem never happens for games that don't.
-
@Mittr @DerLeere @Ronnie21093 Furry donut turns every GPU into a space heater. :shrug:
His problem sounds more like a driver issue if the PC doesn't outright shut down but instead black screens to a command prompt.
-
@Tamamo @Ronnie21093 @DerLeere try to stress test it with software made for well, stress testing
-
@Ronnie21093 @DerLeere Ok try running both at once now. If the issue doesn't appear its not your power supply but more likely a corrupt driver.
-
@Tamamo @DerLeere Finished a Furmark stress test, gonna do a prime95 stress test now.
-
@Tamamo @DerLeere Alright, did a short prime95 test (5 minutes)
GPU reached 63C during the Furmark test, CPU averaged around 63C and occasionally peaked at 71C during the prime95 test.
-
@Ronnie21093 @DerLeere Troubleshooting 101: Eliminate possibilities one by one.
Its not hard.
-
@Tamamo @DerLeere
>Tells me not to run both at once
>Now telling me to run both at once
Make up your mind :akko_aah:
Jokes aside, lemme go do that.
-
@Ronnie21093 @DerLeere @Tamamo What PSU are you using specifically? Perhaps lower quality ones may not work as well during high loads
Edit:nvm saw earlier post
-
@poopernova @DerLeere @Tamamo This one. In theory, it should be able to run my system fine
-
@Tamamo @DerLeere Also, one of my friends earlier told me to check the Event Viewer for any logs related to the PC going to a black screen with a blinking _ then rebooting, but I couldn't find anything.
-
@DerLeere @Tamamo So my friend who sent me my CPU, RAM and PSU just told me that the PSU is a used one. At least 5 or 6 years old
-
@Tamamo @DerLeere Ran both of them at the same time, and nothing happened.
-
@Ronnie21093 @DerLeere @Tamamo Yeah, after reading the thread a bit more, probably some software issues, probably drivers
-
@Ronnie21093 @DerLeere @Tamamo
>6 years
:tamamo_bruh:
My old PSU started doing weird shit to my PC after 6 years
Power might not be going to some components (my old PSU sometimes didn't send power to my drives so I can't boot into windows unless I re-inserted the cables etc.)
-
@Ronnie21093 @DerLeere @Tamamo if you do replace the PSU then make sure that you change all the power cables inside the PC with the ones that come with it.
PSU cables are tuned to work with the PSU that they came with so mixing them with another could kill your components, or worse.
also I'm sure you've already heard this but NEVER cheap out on PSUs.
they are the one component that you never want to see failing so always buy from a good brand.
-
@Meemoo @DerLeere @Tamamo :naruhodo: I'll check and see if I can find a new PSU in a computer store in person.
