@arstechnica I hope this ruling the AI "art" cannot be copyrighted stands. It would effectively eliminate the incentive of trying to sell AI-produced content.
@arstechnica Does this apply to music? So I can use music created by AI on my stream or podcast and nobody will copyrightblock it?
@arstechnica well that clears that up then! 🤨
@arstechnica things is, how to differentiate between AI and human generated content
@arstechnica Looking forward to VFX studios losing copyright on their work when someone argues "A human didn't paint in those images in each frame, a computer did. No copyright for you."
@arstechnica This is an ideal decision. Media corporations depend on copyright to produce intellectual property which they can then collect rent on for a century plus. Without an author, they no longer have IP to exploit. This means they must hire a human being to produce the product they rent out. Guaranteed the media corps will be bribing the USSC to overturn the decision.
@arstechnica This is moving into the territory of the prescient, "Do androids dream electric sheep?"
@arstechnica I wonder, if the ruling went differently and you could copyright something under an AI program, how would public domain work? Would the program, and by extension the living relatives of the person who created said program, earn royalties forever? That sounds like it’d be a giant mess
