   More than 200 cargo ships are stuck in the Panama Canal due to a record drought in the region. Many of them have run aground.

   Water shortages caused by the worst drought in 100 years have forced the canal operators to reduce the flow of traffic and it could have serious consequences for the global supply chain.

   Every day that these ships sit idle, millions of dollars are lost in the sector.
