To be fair, he wasn't really willing to risk his own life. He took the vax but told others to do their own research.
I've long speculated whether the Repubs hoped covid would lead to a culling of Americans. Technological advances are reducing the good paying factory jobs of old and a UBI will soon become necessary and eat corporate profits. If they could eliminate a huge chunk of the labor force, though, that would keep the machine chugging along an extra several years.
