     @Zerglingman @Aether Never came across a women who had an abortion who wasn’t destroyed by it or morally dead (granted, this was in the 1980-90s, plus a sprinkling of cultural Boomers I knew in that period). Ditto the latter for women who support abortion but haven’t actually had one (upper class types too careful and self-disciplined).

     BTW, that Hypocratic oath that includes an implicit “do no harm” requirement? It explicitly forbids abortion. It’s of course getting bent completely out of recognition, and in the US fewer and fewer doctors have any freedom of action as friction culminating in Obama’s “stimulus” bill requirement to make “meaningful use” of electronic medical records (EMRs) has far too many now working for the man, not for you, nor for their own conscience. Plenty of course just retired.

     Machismo repeated this.

     It doesn't simply derive from the "do no harm" principle, it is mentioned specifically:
     
     ὁμοίως δὲ οὐδὲ γυναικὶ πεσσὸν φθόριον δώσω.
     I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion.
