   Google is now forcing me to turn on YouTube history. Otherwise, you get a blank page. Why do you do this? Buying premium subscriptions wasn’t enough?

     Mozilla Firefox is the answer.

     * No ads

     * No ad notices telling me to disable ad blocking

     * No notice telling you to turn on your history.

     I disable the YouTube app on Android, before I even activate my phone (I also disable Chrome).

How can they build a loop of contents you would obsessively watch over and over again, supporting their finances watching their not at all intrusive ads if they don't know what you like and care about? I mean, poor Youtube. They must eat too. Turn on that history mate :cate:

     @nixCraft There's always a hack. In fact, I hadn't noticed this behaviour — I use tools to circumvent all of the rubbish from Google, Meta, and the like.

     @nixCraft I don't get the issue here. I have the YouTube watch history turned off on my other account and I never bat an eye on home page due to it being generic suggestions. It's good that they turned it off, reducing the distraction and saving a shy amount of data.

     @nixCraft just experienced this myself just due l now.

     Looks like they moved up me getting rid of my Google account early.

     YouTube was literally the primary Google service I used daily. Now I'll probably just use invidious and start closing down my account.

     I get the picture, you win @google. You clearly don't want me to directly use your services anymore.
