The printers that require ink to scan and fax
How much ink does it take to scan a document?

@arstechnica
This is sleezy disgusting corp behavior. Should not be allowed to describe the item as dual feature.
Got to find a more repulsive term than "enshitification."
@arstechnica This is exactly the stuff that happens with unregulated capitalism. Capitalism breaks down when it’s not well regulated. You have to have rules for the game enforced by an unrelated entity (governing body). Players won’t regulate themselves clearly.
@arstechnica
you: [hit "scan to PDF" ]
printer: As you sacrifice this document on the altar of light, I must pour a libation for the spirits of my ancestors.
@arstechnica "How much ink does it take to scan a document"? Can you say "Terms and Conditions"?
@arstechnica
This is terrible.
[realizes he hasn’t printed *anything* in 10 years personally]
[realizes he hasn’t printed anything at work in 4…]
[realizes he bought some laser printer from Amazon during the pandemic, hasn’t used it, and doesn’t recall the model or make…pretty sure he knows where it is]
[realizes he doesn’t know what he’d use it for barring some random business thing…which hasn’t happened yet]
[Yes. I know. I could print things for the kids]
[…kids prefer the blank paper]
@arstechnica I must be lucky with my old HP PhotoSmart All-in-One C4400 Series, because I have been using the scanner for years without having ink cartridges. I will never change it because one like that, which scans with the resolution it has is very difficult to find today.
@arstechnica HP printers are the worst.
@arstechnica I replied with a similar comment to the Dell post...I had a Dell color printer who's scanner failed, and it bricked the printer. Because the scanner broke, you couldn't use the printer to...print. It was ridiculous.
@arstechnica I think it’s past time for an open DIY printer platform. Maybe based around pi-zero, 3D printed parts and some off the shelf alcohol based inks. I bet there’s enough disgruntled former HP/Epson/Canon engineers out there to make this happen. Hey @PINE64
