Wormwood (wormwood@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2023 03:34:26 JST Wormwood you can tell you're talking to a beaner over the phone because of the speech mannerisms. They'll say things like "How early? like EARLY-early?" or "how far? like FAR-far?" repeating the word to emphasis more of it without giving a specific number -
Wormwood (wormwood@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2023 03:34:25 JST Wormwood @merchantHelios what's really funny too is hearing native spanish speaker's word choice. They'll often use the most verbose "10-dollar words". Some might assume that they're being pretentious, but that's not the case. The real reason is because the most direct and easy translation is the Latin version of the word, for us Latin is always fancier, but in Spanish everything is based in Latin and it wouldn't be out of the ordinary Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -
merchantHelios (merchanthelios@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2023 03:34:26 JST merchantHelios @Wormwood comes from how Spanish works, like many languages repitition implies more or less of something. Biblical Hebrew had this too, hence "holy holy holy is the LORD" and such. Spanish double negatives.... aren't, for this same exact reason. Saying (lit.) "I didnt not want to go to the store" is actually saying that you really didn't want to go to the store, the second "not" for emphasis. It's not an analytical language like the Germanic-tree -
Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2023 03:36:49 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks @Wormwood I hear many normies doing this, because they’re severely uncoupled from the reality of measurements. Can’t estimate a mile, can’t even tell you what 10 yards/25/50/100 looks like unless they played football. Hell, how many have walked a route and understood the pace it required to travel that distance? Only weirdos in urban hellholes can tell you what a 3-mile walk is for them
Nobody knows distance, they barely have the sobriety and punctuality to keep track of time, so everything has slid into the niggardry of “uh, like you NEED-NEED this, or “need” it like all those other things I ignored and never got a complaint about?”
