Cayhr (cayhr@varishangout.net)'s status on Tuesday, 15-Aug-2023 14:49:15 JST Cayhr Been watching my friends play Baldur's Gate 3 and honestly it just reminds me of constantly rolling low in DND (since its just DND rules).
Glad I skipped it despite everyone saying how good the game is. No, it's not to be a hipster, I just genuinely hate RNG being the fundamental gameplay mechanic. It's my same problem with Fire Emblem and even most JRPGs. Though, RNG has its place to make dodge tanks work, one of my favorite archetypes.- Immahnoob likes this.

Cayhr (cayhr@varishangout.net)'s status on Tuesday, 15-Aug-2023 15:30:04 JST Cayhr You know, there's something to consider. Save scumming is ultimately player choice, but... if you are experiencing a lot of save scumming, now it's time to consider... what is wrong with the game that encourages save scumming so much? It's so tempting to do, and I think that's unhealthy. Other games like FE are not exempt from this even though they (at least the old ones) are designed for you to simply bear with the losses, you can still get RNG screwed and have to restart, which is effectively doing the same thing as save scumming (reload to try again).
As time goes on I find myself becoming less and less tolerant of RNG reliant systems...Immahnoob likes this. -
Cayhr (cayhr@varishangout.net)'s status on Tuesday, 15-Aug-2023 15:31:30 JST Cayhr @supersid333 Yeah dodge tanking requires you to explicitly set up for it. But in games like DND, it is theoretically possible for a regular enemy that isn't built to dodge tank to effectively become that just because the opponent/player keeps rolling low. It's annoying. Sure your dodge tank can get hit here or there, but... randomness...
I've become more and more interested in deterministic systems to pair with RNG mechanics, and I think some pioneering in that aspect is needed to move the RPG genre forward in some way. -
supersid (supersid333@varishangout.net)'s status on Tuesday, 15-Aug-2023 15:31:31 JST supersid @Cayhr I think my favorite dodge tank is Dunban in Xenoblade 1, has skills that gives him massive dodge boosts and extra aggro gen if he's not wearing any armor so you give him a sword with as many agi crystals as possible and watch him kick the enemy's ass in his boxers. -
Meemoo (meemoo@varishangout.net)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2023 00:00:10 JST Meemoo @Cayhr the characters are actually painful to look at due to how horribly ugly they are and game forces gay and beastiality sex down your throat
Not touching any of that even if the game was "goodx -

That was my thing when I played Wow as a druid tank during the BC years.Cayhr likes this. -
Cayhr (cayhr@varishangout.net)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2023 02:45:17 JST Cayhr @DarkMahesvara lol, yeah, I'm not a big fan of the game's art and presentation anyway, on top of all the "approved" sexuality in the game. Like, I get it, sometimes there's a game where the vision is gritty "realism," but even Dark Souls has attractive characters. Hell, Emma from Sekiro... is a very beautiful woman! But no we get ugly with western studios.
I'm just not about to throw my cash at something like that, especially since the game's system is really not something I enjoy :akko_eew2:
I did enjoy the DND games I played in the past, but it's different with video games. Real table top DND is imaginative, but BG3... you get what Larian tells you the world is. It's their interpretation, and I don't think it's all great. -
