It has its use cases when you don't 100% trust the party joining your terminal and also, it's faster then adding a pubkey for ssh.
Write and command and share a link, it can even be used in the browser -

This goes through some API hosted by them. I don't really need this for anything. -

Yeah but tmate proxies it up and doesn't require the users to both have access to the server. You can manage the tmate window and give view-only access.
It has some cool addons features -

Well you can also do this with tmux. Two users can attach to one session. -
